A bear market is a decline in the stock market in which prices of securities fall. It causes a widespread pessimism towards buying stocks. An entry into a bear market is considered when the downturn from its peak is more than 20% over a period of two months. The comparison is usually against a regional or a national market indexes, such as the Euro Stoxx 50.
